August 2008

21 Help Net the Salmon. An entertaining evening on the Tweed. Meet 6pm riverside, Paxton House, Berwick.

21 Trimontium Roman Walk. 5 mile guided walk; Roman Heritage Centre Melrose to Newstead. See Leaderfoot viaduct and remains of Roman fort and amphitheatre. 1:20pm Market St. Melrose

23 Walk the Duchess's Drive. Up through Bowhill's impressive woods. Meet 11am Bowhill Visitor Centre, Selkirk

23 Beechgrove Honey Fest. Family activity day centred on the honey bee.  St. Ronan's Wells Visitor Centre, Innerleithen 11am - 4pm

24 Walk in the Trees at Jedburgh Abbey. one hour guided walk with insights into history and, of course, the trees. Meet 2pm Abbey Visitor Centre, Jedburgh

31 Walk in the Trees at Dryburgh Abbey. A one hour guided walk with losts of interesting info. Meet 2pm Dryburgh Abbey Visitor Centre

31 Above & Around Peebles. A strenuous 9 mile walk over White Meldon and returning by the Tweed. Good wildlife, no dogs. Meet 10am Kingsmeadow car park, Peebles grid NT 252403

 

September 2008

5 Talk & Stalk.   A talk from the wildlife rangers and then a crawl through the forest. No noisy clothing! Meet Osprey Watch Centre, Glentress, Peebles 4:30pm

5 Bowhill Goes Batty. Bat watching in Bowhill woods. Meet 8:30pm Bowhill Visitor Centre

6 Trimontium Walk. As 4th but with the added attraction of an archeologist. Meet 1pm Village Hall Gattonside

7 Border Abbeys Way, Hawick to Selkirk. 12 mile walk (I reckon its nearer 14) along the old Thief's Road. Good views from Wollrig. Meet 10am Market Square Selkirk

11 Trimontium Walk.  See 4th

14 Yetholm Circular. 10 mile walk with the council's archeologist. Out with St. Cuthbert's Way, returning by Pennine Way. Meet 10am The Green, Kirk Yetholm

21 Fungi Foray at Gordon. The season is upon us! Join the Gordon Woodland group and Mike Richardson for an autumn walk in the woods to discover local fungi. Meet 1:30pm Gordon Community Woodland car park, 1mile east of Gordon

21 Laurie Campbell Potography Workshop. A full day workshop on outdoor photography at Harestanes, Meet 10:30am Visitor Centre

27 Cauldshiels Loch & the Eildons.  A strenuous 8 mile walk from Melrose over Cauldsheils Hill and into the Eildons. Bring lunch. Meet 10am TIC Melrose

28 Fungi Foray at Wooplaw.  Join an expert in a search for mushrooms and other fungi. Meet 12am Big Wood Wooplaw 4 miles SE Lauder on Galashiels road

4 Southern Upland Way, Traquair to Tibbie Shiels. 11 mile walk along this Scottish cross country path. Bring lunch. Meet 10am Town Hall Moffat

5 Border Abbeys Way, Selkirk to Melrose. A 10 mile walk from Selkirk Common via Half Crown Corner and Cauldshiels Loch to the Tweed at Melrose. Meet 10am TIC Melrose

9 Trimontium Walk. See 2nd

12 Fungi for Beginners. Join an expert to seek out the fungi in Bowhill Woods. Meet 2pm Bowhill Visitor Centre, Selkirk

15 Archeology Walk, Kelso & Roxburgh Castle.  A 3 hour easy walk from Kelso Abbey to the Castle. Meet 2pm TIC, Kelso

16 Trimontium Walk. See 2nd

19 Southern Upland Way, Lauder to Watch Water Resevoir. A strenuous 12.5 mile walk on the SUW with a chance to see upland wildlife. Bring lunch.  Meet 10:30am Clock Tower Lauder

25-26 Wood Market. A key part of the Forest Festival (see preceding entry) with opportunity to buy a wide range of Scottish wood products direct from their makers.  10:30am - 5pm Community Centre Peebles
